Born 1944. James Tatum moved from Canada to the UK in 1987. While he has painted all his life, it is only more recently, after concluding a successful career in industrial design and engineering, that he has devoted himself to art on a full-time basis. He is largely self-taught but with some guidance from David Tress
Working from his studio, a 14th century barn on the edge of Dartmoor, Tatum is ideally placed to capture the changing moods of the stunning scenery and he does so with great aplomb, his works filled with wonderful effects of light and energy. He uses a variety of mediums, though oil and acrylic predominate. Works are usually commenced en plein-air before finishing in the studio. He has exhibited extensively since 2009.
