'Coast and City' Tim Fudge and Richard Knight

Exhibition featuring the exuberantly coloured works of two new artists to the gallery - Tim Fudge and Richard Knight. The contrasting sources of inspiration of these two make for an intriguing collection - one is beguiled by the forces of nature, the sense of history, mystery and dramatic beauty of the remote western coastlines of,Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The other thrives on the buzz of the city and the artistic opportunities afforded by the constant activity and structural forms of the ever- changing London skyline. Tim Fudge's roots give a clue as to his artistic leanings. He was born in Scotland and now lives in Wales close to the Pembrokeshire coast and the artistic heritage of both countries flourishes in his work. We see echoes of Sir Kyffin Williams in his assertive palette-knife technique yet he eschews the more subdued tones of that artist and indeed many of his contemporaries in favour of an irresistible vibrancy more in tune with the Scottish Colourists. His work speaks of freedom, of being in the moment, of history, of the power and permanence of nature, always underpinned by a passionate desire to communicate his experience to the viewer in his own distinctive style. Tim has a BA (Hons) in painting from the University of Wales and has featured in a number of solo shows at some of Wales' premier galleries.
Richard Knight is an artist whose primary focus is capturing the vitality of urban life. He graduated from Kingston School of Art in 1987 and worked as an illustrator and graphic designer before turning to full-time artistry in more recent years. His main inspiration is the metropolis, especially London where the constant comings and goings and evolving skyline offer infinite opportunities for his keen eye for composition to explore. His approach is of a more figurative nature incorporating a modern impressionist and at times, abstract feel. With their strong graphic lines, attention to structural forms and the artist's predilection for imbuing life to his imagery through bold use of colour, these works have a strong contemporary feel Richard has exhibited at the Pastel Society, Royal Society of Marine Artists and at the Mall Galleries. He is very much an artist on the rise with demand for his works growing consistently.
